Talk about a trend that will help you get dressed fast! You can literally get a shower at night, throw on your lingerie, roll out of bed and wear part of it to work. Well that’s not exactly how it works. But there is a reemerging trend in which women incorporate lingerie or lingerie inspired clothing into their daily wardrobe. This has been going off and on for over a decade. I was recently reminded of this when I ran across this article of George Clooney’s wife rocking a lingerie inspired dress. I’m not really all that excited about trends since they’re usually here one day and gone the next as this has proven throughout the years. However, there was something particularly interesting about this one.
This isn’t exactly the easiest trend to pull off and one wrong move could result in you looking really indecent in the office meeting, in class, at your kid’s school pickup or wherever you do your business. Some may not be a fan but for those who are or are a bit curious allow me to share some tips on how to make lingerie dressing perhaps work for you.
Now truth be told this doesn’t exactly feel all that new to me. I’ve always though silky camisoles used under business suits looked a bit like lingerie–especially the one’s with the delicate lace around the decolletage. They served as a means of infusing something ultra feminine and sexy into the wardrobe. I’m not against that when it’s done right. Otherwise it can be a little risque’.
Ok, about those tips on incorporating lingerie or lingerie-like clothes into your wardrobe….
-Try incorporating one piece into your outfit ie. corset or camisole
-If the lingerie piece is silky or shiny make sure the rest of the outfit isn’t. The other pieces will mellow out the lingerie piece and make the outfit more cohesive.
-Use your lingerie pieces as “peek a boo” pieces. The entire garment doesn’t have to show for it to make a statement.
-Don’t wear any lingerie piece that is too revealing—stay away from those that are see through, clingy, have low necklines and high splits
-However you incorporate the piece make sure it’s appropriate for whatever setting you’ll be in. You have more freedom in a personal setting then in a business setting.
-Wear pieces and styles that flatter your body type.
Example of mixing a Lingerie inspired dress into a dressier outfit! The blazer tones down the dress but still keeps it sexy. Pair with a cute clutch and strappy sandal.
So there it is. The lingerie trend is back in full swing and for those who may feel daring enough to try it, hopefully realize there are many tasteful ways to incorporate it into your wardrobe. Let me know your thoughts. How do you feel about this trend? Have you found any unique ways to utilize it?
